Konica Minolta Business Solutions – Section 68 Complaint and Bargaining Update
March 20, 2025
To: All MoveUP members at Konica Minolta Business Solutions
As you may already be aware, your union recently took action against the employer for using replacement workers.
Your union and the employer met yesterday at the BC Labour Relations Board for an informal mediation. We are pleased to inform you that the meeting was productive.
Permissible Replacement Workers
Employers in British Columbia have a right to use replacement workers under the Labour Code provided they meet certain criteria. The parties signed an agreement at the Board yesterday that outlines which replacement are permissible. They are as follows:
- Surinder Dhiman
- Walter Alavena
This means that the employer is not permitted under the Labour Code to use any other replacement workers or contractors should the job action escalate.
If you see or hear of any further incidents involving non-bargaining unit members performing bargaining unit work, please report it immediately to acheverie@moveuptogether.ca. Your involvement is essential to hold the employer accountable.
Future Bargaining Dates
As a result of the informal mediation process, the parties agreed to reconvene collective bargaining on the following dates:
- Wednesday March 26
- Thursday April 3
- Wednesday April 9
- Thursday April 10
Job action will continue until such time that a tentative agreement is reached. Your union genuinely hopes the employer comes to the table on these dates prepared to offer the fair contract that you deserve. However, if they do not, the agreement made yesterday at the Board regarding permissible replacement workers puts us in a strong position to continue and escalate the job action.
Uniform Ban and Leafletting Campaign
As a reminder, we are continuing with our uniform ban and leafletting campaign for the time being. This is a great opportunity for us to gain the support of our customers and please be mindful of this as you service your calls. If you are running low on leaflets or have not yet received your MoveUP apparel, please notify kberikoff@moveuptogether.ca.
The solidarity among the group has been outstanding. Let’s continue to stand together and pressure the employer to come to the table and negotiate a fair contract.
In Solidarity,
Andrew Cheverie, Union Representative
Ronnie Ho, Union Representative
Christy Slusarenko, Vice-President
