David Suzuki Foundation – General Update & Job Stewards Needed
March 19, 2025
To: All MoveUP members at the David Suzuki Foundation
At our all-region membership meeting on January 13, 2025, the COPE Ontario representative, the COPE Quebec representative, and I disclosed what we could share with respect to layoffs. We were successful at improving the laid off employees’ severance packages equitably. With that said, we need to mitigate such impact, arising from organizational restructures or any other major operational changes, through collective bargaining.
To reiterate, we need to have job stewards. (You Have Joined MoveUP Information Sheet) of which, two (2) will be appointed as members of your bargaining committee and one (1) will be appointed as an alternate. Your bargaining committee will be joined by the Ontario and Quebec bargaining committees. Although the employer stated that they want a collective agreement for each region on March 3, 2025, your Union persists in having one all-region collective agreement to strengthen our bargaining power and promote equality. If you are interested in becoming a job steward, please contact your Vice President, Christy Slusarenko, at clusarenko@moveuptogether.ca, for further information.
The COPE representatives met on March 10, 2025 to select dates for the bargaining preparation. The first session, Bargaining Committee Training, has been scheduled for April 7, 2025. It is quite critical for bargaining unit members in B.C. to ensure that your collective interests are represented at the bargaining table. Should you have any questions or concerns pertaining to the upcoming negotiation, please do not hesitate to contact me at achen@moveuptogether.ca. Thank you for your time and attention.
In solidarity,
Anny Chen
Union Representative
