Seaspan ULC – Workplace Health & Safety Concern
February 10, 2025
To: All MoveUP members at Seaspan ULC (Cates Building)
Your union has heard from members who work at the Cates building in North Vancouver regarding a workplace health & safety concern related to mice and mice droppings.
We have brought this concern forward to Employee Relations and requested information on the progress of eradicating the ongoing issue.
It is our understanding that a pest control company was brought in, as well as a third-party cleaning company, yet the problem still exists.
Your union expects to be updated by the employer tomorrow afternoon on what the next steps will be and how this health & safety issue will be addressed.
We understand that there may be employees who suffer with underlying health conditions which may be exacerbated by an unsanitary environment. Under the Workers Compensation Act, all employees have the right to refuse unsafe work, including unsafe working conditions. If you feel that this is an unsafe environment for you, please reach out to your manager and request approval to work from home until this issue is resolved. Should your request be denied, please email me at ygarie@moveuptogether.ca or email one of your job stewards.
In solidarity,
Dale Gibson, Job Steward
Shavanda Hanna, Job Steward
