BCH & Powertech – Entitlement for Annual Vacation and RWWL days

February 7, 2025

To: All MoveUP members at BCH & Powertech

We are reaching out to members at BC Hydro and Powertech to remind them of their entitlement for annual vacation and RWWL days.

As per BC Hydro/MoveUP Collective Agreement Article 14.06, vacations can be taken in broken periods but normally at least two weeks of the year’s entitlement must be taken as a continuous period. Please be advised that there is a minimum number of weeks that needs to be taken in a continuous period but there is no maximum. If members wish to take all their vacation allotment as one continuous period as their first bid, they are entitled to do so.

It has come to the union’s attention that some department managers are taking it upon themselves to advise our members that there is a maximum number of weeks that can be taken during peak vacation season (summer and Christmas holiday). Furthermore, some managers are requesting that time off requests longer than 3 weeks require “special permission”. The union’s position is that you do not have to provide an explanation for your entitled time off.

This does not pertain to situations during blackout periods in some departments.

If you have any questions or concerns about vacation and/or RWWL entitlements, please contact a job steward.

In solidarity,

Alina Teymory, Union Representative
Mike Novak, Union Representative
Richard Van Grol, Union Representative
Paul Voykin, Union Representative
