Hertz (YVR) – Pension Contribution Grievance
December 17, 2024
To: All MoveUP members at Hertz Vancouver
As your union, our job doesn’t just end after we’ve helped you negotiate a contract. We are there to support you to handle issues you are facing at your workplace every day.
It is our responsibility to make sure that once your contract is in place, your employer follows the rules that are laid out. When our members see that a rule isn’t being followed, they come to us, and we deal with it.
For example, on December 11th a policy grievance was filed because your employer had stopped paying pension contributions that you are eligible for as per the collective agreement.
Pension contributions should include earnings from your gross pay (regular pay, holiday pay holiday overtime, sick pay, RSA incentive or CSR Revenue Management incentive). Your employer had stopped making contributions on several of those. After several meetings with your employer, that has been corrected. You are now being asked to match the contributions that the employer has agreed to pay and if you are not in the position financially, the employer is saying you will not be eligible for the contributions from the employer. This was the employer’s mistake. You should not have to lose out on a benefit that you are all eligible for. Therefore, the union has filed a grievance to make this right.
We are getting to work right away to make sure this grievance is appropriately dealt with. In this specific case, our objective is to ensure that every member gets the appropriate amount that is owing to them.
If you have questions about grievance process or any of the other work that MoveUP does to support members at Hertz, contact your union representative Ward Edgar at wedgar@moveuptogether.ca.
