BC Hydro Site C – Confined Space Safety Concerns

May 7, 2024

To: All MoveUP members at BC Hydro Site C

It has come to our attention there are concerns over whether Prime Contractors at Site C or BC Hydro have been creating and following safe work procedures when it comes to working in confined spaces.

We have confirmed with WorkSafeBC that an investigation was initiated in February 2024 and it remains ongoing.

We want to stress the importance that our members report any and all unsafe working conditions you encounter to your Joint Health and Safety Committee. We also want to remind you of your right to refuse unsafe work. It is illegal for an employer to penalize you for raising a health or safety issue at work.

It is important that you are aware of your rights as workers. Please review the information in the links below from WorkSafeBC’s website for more information on your right to refuse unsafe work, as well as prohibited action complaints.
