National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: Buy an Orange Shirt for Charity

August 29, 2022

To: All MoveUP Members

September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This is the second year that we will observe this day as a statutory holiday. It is a day where all of us have the opportunity to reflect on truth and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, and the genocidal legacy of Canada’s Indian Residential School System.

This year, our union would like to use this opportunity to help make a positive impact as part of our commitment to truth and reconciliation and we want our members to get involved.

Members can order an orange ‘Every Child Matters’  t-shirt for a donation of $10 per shirt. 100 per cent of the proceeds for each shirt will be donated to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society (IRSSS) in North Vancouver, BC. Shirts will go on sale starting at 6:00 p.m. today.

To order your shirts, please click here. We will be arranging three pick-up locations for members in the Lower Mainland (Burnaby, North Vancouver, and Surrey). All requests from outside the Lower Mainland will be delivered by mail.

The deadline to order your shirt is September 16.

Supplies are limited, and once sizes are gone there will not be any additional ones available.

If you do not wish to get a t-shirt but would like to support the IRSSS, we encourage you to make a direct donation by visiting irsss.ca/donate.

Thank you for your solidarity and your commitment to truth and reconciliation.

In solidarity,

Christy Slusarenko & Anderson Charles
Co-chairs, Human Rights & Multicultural Committee
