Job Action
Victoria Shipyards Job Action Update #1
April 1, 2022
To: MoveUP Members at Victoria Shipyards
Your union, along with the other unions at Victoria Shipyards, held a meeting this morning to discuss next steps.
The mediator was asked to book out on Thursday, March 31, which means the 48-hour notice expires on Saturday morning. At that time, we will be in a legal position to begin job action.
Our first step for job action is a ban on all overtime. This means that all unionized members, including MoveUP members, should not be working any overtime until further notice.
We have a plan in place on escalation of job action, up to a full scale strike if needed.
While we appreciate that the majority of MoveUP members stand strong with our fellow union members at Victoria Shipyards, we would like to ensure that everyone understands their responsibilities. Any member who violates the legal job action imposed by your union, can be charged under the MoveUP Constitution. You can review the MoveUP Constitution here.
We are still hopeful that the employer will reconsider our request to return to the table.
Please keep an eye on your emails for updates.
In solidarity,
Yudon Garie, Union Representative
