Bargaining
Kelowna Cabs- Bargaining Update
March 29, 2021
To: MoveUP members at Kelowna Cabs
On Thursday, March 25, 2021, we received a notice of an application by “certain employees” to cancel the union’s certification. We have proudly represented employees of Kelowna Cabs for forty years and are disappointed to see this application.
Every union member will get a chance to vote electronically via email. The ballot will be sent to your email address at 6 p.m. today. Electronic voting will open on March 30, 2021, at noon, and close on March 31, at noon. Should you run into any issue with this process, the assigned officer can be reached at 778-940-0073 or joe.leblanc@lrb.bc.ca.
The union has challenged the decertification application on several legal grounds, including unfair labour practices and some questions about certain names on the voters list. The BC Labour Relations Board (LRB)will take some time to look into these challenges, so unfortunately the results of the vote will not be known for at least a month, if not longer. LRB decisions can take some time.
While the employer has chosen not to end the lockout, your union continues to organize a variety of job actions to engaging the community and keeping your jobs local. We do not want to see anyone going into debt or hurting financially during this time. You will receive pay from your union’s defence fund if you participate. If you have any question about job actions, you can contact me at achen@moveuptogether.ca.
Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.
In Solidarity,
Anny Chen, Union Representative
