Support HEU’s campaign to strengthen public health care

We are writing today to ask our members to help support the Hospital Employees’ Union (HEU) Make It Public campaign – a campaign that calls on removing private companies out of hospitals.
There are so many issues that have come to light through this pandemic and those related to our health care system have been particularly spotlighted.
Cleaning and dietary staff are critical to quality health care but, since being privatized over 20 years ago, their wages have become stagnant. Private corporations care more about profits than their employees or those they care for! It’s time for a change.
We are asking you to support these workers by signing on to this campaign which will reunite the health care team. Show your support for these workers and get these private, for-profit companies out of our hospitals! Simply go to makeitpublic.ca to send a message to the Minister of Finance, Minister of Health, and your local MLA.
Supporting the work of our friends and allies is an essential element of our labour movement. Whenever our union has had job actions such as a strike or lockout situation, we have called on and received the support of fellow union members who have come to support us by walking picket lines or driving by and honking their horns to show collective solidarity. This is what our union family does and has done for decades.
Unions rise in support of other unions, and we stand with the HEU now in their letter writing campaign to hold this government to their campaign promises and put our health care back together.
