Support locked out MoveUP members this Saturday (March 6) in Kelowna
March 5, 2021
To: All MoveUP members living in Kelowna/West Kelowna
Last Friday, February 26, MoveUP members working at Kelowna Cabs were locked out by their employer. This was a shameful approach, in the middle of a pandemic no less, to try and force our members into agreeing to allow the employer to outsource their work to an overseas call centre.
Our members provide an essential service for Kelowna Cabs, and for the community they serve. We will not sit back and allow this company to threaten our members’ livelihoods and to threaten to take jobs away from the community.
Please join us this Saturday when we will hold a rally in support of these workers. COVID-19 safety precautions will be taken, and all those attending are asked to wear a mask. We are also asking all the community to refrain from giving business to Kelowna Cabs as long as this lockout is still in effect.
Date: Saturday, March 6, 2021
Time: Starting at 12 p.m.
Location: Starting at Kelowna Cabs headquarters (5-3312 Appaloosa Road, Kelowna) and then making our way towards Reid’s Corner (Highway 97 and Sexsmith Rd. by the Husky/Tim Hortons)
If you cannot make it but still want to support, we encourage you to leave a message on Kelowna Cabs’ feedback form letting them know you will not be supporting them until they end their lockout and give their workers a fair deal that preserves local jobs.
Thank you for your support.
In solidarity,
Christy Slusarenko
Vice-President, Combined Units
