BCH – OT Meal Expenses

It has once again come to our attention that BC Hydro is not reimbursing employees correctly for receipted expense claims.  The employer has published an “EXPENSE CLAIM RERERECE GUIDE, 2019” (click here) for MoveUP members that is not completely accurate. Please note the highlighted area under the subheading “OVERTIME MEALS”. Your collective agreement clearly sets out the circumstances in Article 5.10 b) i) ii) which states, “claims over the per diem amount must be supported by receipts” and 11.04 g) “the employer will provide a meal or reimburse the employee for reasonable meal expenses incurred”.

The per diem maximum amount of $26.00 is not the ceiling for receipted meal expenses.

Expenses incurred must be reasonable.
