CMBC – Confirmed Exposure at Vancouver Transit Centre (Fleet Maintenance and Office area)
November 17, 2020
To: All MoveUP members at Coast Mountain Bus
MoveUP learned early Tuesday morning that there has been a COVID-19 exposure event at the Vancouver Transit Centre in the Fleet Maintenance and Office area. The Vancouver Coastal Health Authority shared there was an incident of exposure to COVID-19 on November 6 and 7. This exposure does not mean you are infected with COVID-19. If you do not have symptoms and have not been contacted by Vancouver Coastal Health Authority please self-monitor yourself for symptoms.
The employer has advised your union that any relevant workplaces have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. Your union will push the employer to take every step available to ensure the safety of our members given this development.
CMBC has posted the attached contact letter (attached here) at the worksite. Vancouver Coastal Health Authority is actively contact tracing all employees that may have been in contact with this exposure. If you are not contacted by Vancouver Coastal Health and do not have symptoms, please monitor yourself for symptoms associated with COVID-19 for 14 days from the last date of possible exposure November 7, 2020.
All members at the Vancouver Transit Centre are reminded to:
· Continuously and diligently monitor your health for fever, cough, sneezing, sore throat or difficulty breathing
· Do not come to work if you are sick
· Contact your doctor or BC HealthLink at 8-1-1 immediately if you become sick or experience any of the above symptoms
· Ensure you follow all safety directives from CMBC with respect to mandatory masking and social distancing. If you observe anyone contravening this policy please report it to your supervisor.
Further information about COVID-19 is available on the BC Centre for Disease Control website.
Your union is in daily conversations with CMBC about the COVID-19 pandemic. Our utmost priority is to ensure our members are safe in the workplace.
MoveUP members can take steps to protect one another. Everyone MUST wash their hands and use sanitizing wipes on any objects, surfaces, etc, that are touched by co-workers in between cleaning schedules. All members can ensure that social distancing protocols are followed at work. If you aren’t able to practice social distancing, please report to your manager and your local OH&S representative. MoveUP is working hard to ensure that our OH&S Committees are activated and well informed about COVID-19 and that all employers meet their responsibility to provide a healthy and safe workplace during the pandemic.
MoveUP will keep members advised as we learn more about this situation. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your Union Representative Parm Sandhar or our WCB and OH&S Specialist Niki Schnurr.
