VOCU Bargaining Update 5 – Membership Meeting

In the last bargaining update, we advised you that we would be applying for mediation through the Labour Relations Board of BC (LRB).

Your union bargaining committee attended mediation with the employer, and the mediator assigned by the LRB, on October 16 and 22, 2020.

We were hopeful that through this process, we would be able to come to a tentative agreement to put forward to you for ratification. After a full day and a half of mediation, the parties were unable to reach an agreement and mediation talks broke off on the afternoon of October 22. We do have another date scheduled for November 4, 2020 but before that meeting, we feel it’s time we come back to you for your input.

While we would prefer to have an in-person meeting to discuss bargaining, with the current state of the pandemic we feel it would be safer for everyone to have this meeting held virtually using Zoom.

We have scheduled a membership meeting as follows:

Date:  Tuesday, November 3, 2020

Time: Virtual Doors will open at 6:00pm / Meeting starts at 6:30pm

If you’re not familiar with this online platform, it is quite user friendly. Your union will be sending out log in information to your home email address which will contain a link you can just click on to access the meeting. There’s no need to download anything. If you are not able to be at a computer, there will also be phone numbers you can call in to, however using a computer will enable you to participate more fully in the conversation and view any slides that we may have for you.

This is a very important meeting where we will be sharing where we’re at with bargaining and for you to provide more input about your collective agreement.
