Capilano University – Reminders on Safe and Respectful Workplaces

October 8, 2020

To: All MoveUP Members at CapilanoU

Although everyone is facing the same pandemic threat, not everyone is facing the same circumstances. We are all managing an increased cognitive load as we continue to adapt to new protocols, new procedures and new challenges. It’s important to remember that it is inevitable that mistakes will happen, and to be kind and forgiving to our colleagues today, tomorrow and going forward when they do.

All employees have a right work in an environment which is free of personal and/or sexual harassment. Any discriminatory behaviour at or related to the workplace which denies an individual their dignity or respect or which adversely affects their terms or conditions of employment by creating an intimidating, coercive, restrictive, offensive, embarrassing or humiliating work environment is considered to be personal harassment.

An employee who believes that they have a complaint of sexual harassment or personal harassment is encouraged to make a direct request of the respondent that the offensive behaviour or actions cease. If your request is unsuccessful, or you are uncomfortable making such a request, please reach out to a job steward, an executive councillor or union representative so that we can assist you. More information can be found under Article 29 of your collective agreement here, and under the following intranet policies :

Wash your hands frequently, employ appropriate physical distancing, and stay safe.
