Bargaining
HEI-Bulletin to Recruit JS for Bargaining Committee
October 1, 2020
To: All MoveUP Members Employed at Hastings Entertainment Inc.
We hope that all of you are doing well during these uncertain times. On December 31, 2020, your Collective Agreement will expire, please note the current agreement will continue in full force and effect until the parties conclude a renewal collective.
MoveUP understands that many of you are currently laid off due to the temporary suspension of operations and acknowledges this will not be an easy set of negotiations. We have been in constant communications with Hastings around the closure and have a commitment from the Employer to continue these discussions in pursuit of re-opening opportunities.
It is important that we prepare ourselves for negotiations. Currently we have one Job Steward, Emily Reilly from the Count team. In preparation for bargaining we need to have more Job Stewards involved and engaged to create a strong bargaining committee with representation from the various departments of Hastings Entertainment Inc.
We encourage all of you to consider becoming Job Stewards to assist your Union with communication and to ensure the collective agreement is adhered to by the Employer.
Your Union asks you to save the date Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020, as we plan to hold an evening townhall. Your Union Representative and Vice President will both be in attendance to answer questions regarding the bargaining procedure, listen to the concerns and wants of this membership, as well assist you in navigating our Member Portal for electronic voting to ratify the new agreement.
We look forward to working with all of you and if you are interested in being a Job Steward please email Vice President of Combined Units Christy Slusarenko at cslusarenko@moveuptogether.ca or your Union Representative Kelly Quinn at kquinn@movetogether.ca.
In Solidarity,
Christy Slusarenko, Vice President Combined Units
Kelly Quinn, Union Representative
