Calling on ICBC to address quarantine breakers
August 10, 2020
To: All MoveUP Members at ICBC
At MoveUP, the health and safety of our members is paramount. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our members have been extremely diligent in bringing their concerns to us about what has been happening in their workplaces and we have been taking them to ICBC as soon as we hear about them. Your concerns are our concerns too.
The feedback we receive from our members has been invaluable in allow us to advocate on your behalf to ensure things like personal protective equipment (PPE), physical distancing markers, and other safety measures have been implemented.
Recently, we have had members informing us that there have been numerous instances of customers who have been outside the country attending ICBC offices without having first properly adhered to the quarantine requirements as ordered by public health officials .
This not only puts our members at risk, but also puts at risk the hundreds of customers each day that our members serve. It also puts the larger community at risk.
We have asked ICBC to put in a formal policy on how to address these concerns but, to date, they have not yet responded. This is an important health and safety matter for workers and the public. It needs to be addressed immediately.
We have sent out a media release this morning that shares the concerns we have heard directly from ICBC staff.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your health and safety at your worksite, please contact a member of your Joint Worksite Occupational Health and Safety Committee and send a copy to us at ICBCconnect@moveuptogether.ca . Together, we are improving our workplace health and safety.
