Local Voice earns prestigious labour media award

The 2019 Winter edition of MoveUP’s member publication – Local Voice – was named the winner of the Canadian Association of Labour Media’s (CALM) venerated Rosemarie Bahr Award for excellence in print layout and design in regular print publication.

Dubbed ‘The People Edition’, the Winter 2019 edition focused on telling the stories of many of our MoveUP members not just in the workplace but in their personal lives as well.

“We are honoured to be chosen among so many incredible union publications from across the country,” said Daniel Fung, Acting Communications Director of MoveUP. “It would not have been possible without the combined efforts of members and staff who contribute to making the Local Voice happen, and to the incredible skill of union graphic designer Kristina Benson of Dansk Design Group.”

MoveUP earned top honours in the categories of Best Photo – Volunteer Produced for a photo of our environment committee meeting owls submitted by Bruce Sarvis, a member from BC Hydro; Best audio production for our “Think US Health Insurance” radio ad as part of our Driving Public campaign; and Best Meme for our graphic image produced for Pi Day.

Additionally, MoveUP also received an honourable mention in the Freeperson Award category for best cartoon, illustration or infographic for the Fair Treatment cartoon drawn by Huw Evans and first published in our 2019 Summer/Fall Local Voice edition.
