Bargaining
Canadian Freightways Bargaining Bulletin # 2
March 25, 2019
To: All MoveUP members at Canadian Freightways
Your Union and Employer met in Calgary on March 13th and 14th and exchanged proposals, thereby beginning the bargaining process to negotiate a new collective agreement. Joining the Union bargaining committee for this first round of bargaining was Mike Novak, your new MoveUP union representative.
The parties made inroads in drafting tentative new language and were able to take time to have extensive discussions on all outstanding issues of concern, as well as having full discussion and review of all the proposals that had been tabled by the parties.
During our discussions we addressed the three grievances that had been scheduled for arbitration April 3-5, 2019. I am pleased to report that through these discussions we were successful in achieving a settlement on the exclusivity of bargaining unit work grievance(s) and all the update work that had been transferred out of the Business Centre to the Head Office in Calgary will be returned to the MoveUP bargaining unit.
As a result of this settlement we were also able to secure the recall of one of our laid off members in the Winnipeg terminal, and add another full time posting, thereby creating another new position in Winnipeg.
The Union could not have been successful in resolving these grievances without the hard work and dedication of our members in the Business Centre who provided the Union with the facts we needed to pursue the work. Thank you.
The parties will now resume on May 3rd and 4th to continue negotiations. Further updates will follow.
In solidarity,
Lisa Main, Bargaining Committee
Lorna Lohner, Bargaining Committee
Mike Novak, Union Representative
Cheryl Popeniuk, Senior Union Representative
