Canadian Freightways Bargaining Update #1
January 8, 2019
To: All MoveUp members at Canadian Freightways
Lorna Lohner has generously offered to join myself and Lisa Main on the bargaining committee, and we are happy to announce that she will be the replacement for Frank Brennan who will be retiring this month. We thank Lorna for stepping up to represent the membership and are looking forward to work alongside her to obtain a new, fair and equitable collective agreement.
We also wish to thank Frank Brennan for his tireless support and work on behalf of the membership throughout the years, both as a job steward and a bargaining committee member. His vast array knowledge and history with the employer will be greatly missed at the table and on the work floor. However, we wish him all the best for a happy and healthy retirement in the years to come.
The parties have scheduled dates and will begin negotiations on March 13 and 14, 2019 in Calgary. Further updates will follow throughout the process.
There are several other outstanding issues that remain unresolved including the restructuring application filed last year by your employer, the arbitration scheduled in April for the transfer of Interline Update work and the opening of the Fed Ex dedicated warehouse in Burnaby. A separate bulletin will follow in the next few weeks once we have more concrete information to provide to you.
In the meantime, Happy New Year and if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your bargaining committee.
In solidarity
Your Bargaining Committee
