Learn, Grow and Lead by Becoming a Job Steward at MoveUP
May 4, 2018
To: All MoveUP Members at WAVAW
As a newly certified bargaining unit, we are looking for individuals who are willing to take on the role of Job Steward in their workplace. Our job stewards occupy the most valuable roles in our union. They offer support and guidance to their co-workers, keep little problems from becoming big ones, and help make the workplace function smoothly. Stewards provide workplace leadership, information, insight and understanding to the staff and elected representatives at the MoveUP office.
Becoming a job steward is a rewarding experience. It’s an opportunity to help and support your colleagues, while learning valuable skills. As a steward you will learn about your and your co-worker’s rights, and how to stand up to make sure members in your workplace are treated fairly. MoveUP offers regular opportunities for training to learn all the skills needed to assist you in your role as a job steward.
We’re looking for people we can train to be top-notch workplace advocates. We want to make sure you and your co-workers get all the info and support you need.
Please read our online member guide “What is a Job Steward and How do I Become One?” and consider putting your name forward. As a Union we will provide you with the necessary tools to be a successful steward during our upcoming Level I Job Steward Training, which will be held on June 16 & 17, 2018.
If you are interested in becoming a steward or learning more about the role, please email Kim Smith at ksmith@moveuptogether.ca no later than May 23, 2018.
In solidarity,
Christy Slusarenko
Vice-President
