As you are aware, we have a new, progressive government in place. The NDP has promised to improve the lives of many British Columbians by making it more affordable and this is good news for BC and for MoveUP members.
Since the election, we’ve had high level discussions with the NDP government, including Premier John Horgan. We are actively promoting MoveUP’s position on issues that impact all of our members – from BC Hydro, to post-secondary education, workers’ rights and job security. For example, ICBC’s financial problems have been in the news lately, so we are meeting with the minister responsible, David Eby, next week. We have already had a phone conversation with Michelle Mungall, Minister of Energy. We are also seeking meetings with Bowinn Ma, Parliamentary Secretary for Translink, Selina Robinson, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, who has overall responsibility for public transit, and Melanie Mark, Minister of Advanced Education.
One of our overall strategies is to obtain a ‘seat at the table,’ so our members’ concerns are considered when decisions are made.
Rest assured that when, or if there are changes made that impact your job site, we will proactively fight for your well-being. Your job, pensions and future are our top priority.
After 16 years, we finally have a labour friendly government. Our union is confident that the BC NDP will work with labour, citizens and community stakeholders to grow B.C.’s economy in the years ahead and help build a province that works for everyone.
