MoveUP Welcomes car2go Employees to Union

Workers in Fast-Growing Car Share Sector Seek a Voice in Their Workplace

The Vancouver employees of the world’s largest car sharing network, car2go, have voted to become members of the union MoveUP.

“We care about our work at car2go, and by joining MoveUP we’re making sure our voices and input are heard,” said car2go employee Shawn Walsh. “We’re looking forward to working with our union and employer to make car2go an even better place to work.”

“We’re proud to welcome car2go’s employees to our union,” said MoveUP President David Black. “Car sharing is a growing sector and Vancouver is one of car2go’s most successful cities. We believe the intersection between transportation and technology is the future, and it’s important that people working in this sector share in their employers’ success, and have the support and protection of a union.”

Vancouver represents car2go’s single largest city market, with about 1,275 vehicles and 95,000 members. Vancouver surpassed Berlin’s 1,200 vehicles last year. Seattle comes second in the North American market, with 750 vehicles and 63,000 members.

MoveUP represents approximately 12,000 workers in Western Canada. MoveUP’s members work in insurance, utilities, IT, transit and transportation, education, and more.
