BCAA lockout will end on December 18, 2015
Burnaby – Locked out BCAA Emergency Roadside Assistance Dispatchers have voted “yes” to accept a mediator’s proposed contract. The approximately 70 members of the union MoveUP, the Movement of United Professionals, have been locked out by BCAA for over six months.
This agreement, which was facilitated by Mediator Ken Saunders and ratified by the BCAA board of directors on Thursday, December 10, will end the bitter lockout. MoveUP’s members will return to work on December 18, 2015.
The major issue between the parties was that the Emergency Roadside Assistance Dispatchers were working longer hours yet being paid the same as other BCAA employees who did the same or similar work. The mediated agreement removes the inequality through a combination of reduced hours and increased pay.
“By sticking together and staying strong, our members were able to win fair treatment,” said MoveUP President David Black. “I’m incredibly proud of our members – their strength and solidarity carried the day.”
MoveUP recently launched their “Real Leaders Don’t” campaign to point out the disconnect between BCAA’s purported values and their lockout actions. Shortly thereafter CEO Paul Healey abruptly resigned.
