MoveUP APPLIES FOR MEDIATION WITH ALMA MATER SOCIETY
Talks Stalled Tuesday After AMS Refuses to Table Wage Proposal

VANCOUVER – The Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union, Local 378, has applied for mediation in order to attempt to continue negotiating with the Alma Mater Society over a first collective agreement for AMS Security staff.

Talks between the two parties stalled on Tuesday when the AMS refused to table a proposal for wages. While the union and employer had been able to reach agreement on some issues, MoveUP was unable to continue negotiating key work standards issues without some idea of what the AMS is planning to propose in regards to wages and other monetary items.

“The AMS Security staff is simply not paid comparable wages to other security workers employed at UBC. Our members work hard to keep students and faculty and AMS facilities safe and they deserve to have that recognized,” said MoveUP Vice-President Heather Lee.

In addition to wage and other monetary issues, MoveUP is committed to finding a fair and reasonable resolution on issues around job security and protection from contracting out.
