Retiring Board Member Danny White awarded with lifetime MoveUP membership

After 40 years with BC Hydro and 32 years as an activist with his union, MoveUP Board Member Danny White is retiring.

At the beginning of today’s Council meeting the MoveUP Executive Board took time to acknowledge and thank White for his many years of service to his Union.  President Andy Ross presented White with a certificate awarding him with a lifetime honorary membership to MoveUP.

Ross reminded Council the year White started at BC Hydro – 1969 – was the same year that John Lennon and Yoko One staged their ‘Bed-In’ for peace in Montreal.  Ross went on to speak about White’s achievements outside the Union, including holding an elected school trustee position in Comox for over 20 years.  Ross closed with a quote from White, pulled from a 1987 edition of the Union newsletter:

"If people don’t like the way local government is run, or are concerned about their kids’ education or the union itself – you can’t sit back and complain.  You get involved."
