Lake City Casino – Learn, Grow and Lead by Becoming a Job Steward at MoveUP

August 1, 2017

To: All MoveUP members at Lake City Casino

Your collective agreement is one of the most important documents between yourselves and your employer. It determines your wages, benefits and conditions of work. Your Union needs strong, committed individuals who are willing to be job stewards in your workplace.

Currently, your worksite needs a job steward so please consider putting your name forward to fill this important role.

Our job stewards occupy the most valuable roles in our union. Stewards provide workplace leadership and information, insight and understanding to the staff and elected representatives at the MoveUP office. They offer support and guidance to their co-workers, keep little problems from becoming big ones, and help make the workplace function smoothly. In bargaining, they make sure the needs of the members are represented at the table to ensure you have the best collective agreement possible.

Becoming a job steward is a rewarding experience. It’s an opportunity to help and support your colleagues, while learning valuable skills. As a steward you will learn about your and your co-workers’ rights, and how to stand up to make sure members in your workplace are treated fairly. MoveUP offers regular opportunities for training to learn all the skills needed, which include conflict resolution and a deeper understanding of your collective agreement.

We’re looking for people we can train to be top-notch workplace advocates. We want to make sure you and your co-workers get all the info and support you need.

Please read our online member guide “What is a Job Steward and How do I Become One?” and consider putting your name forward.

If you are interested in becoming a steward or learning more about the role, please email Alicia Gallo at agallo@moveuptogether.ca.

In solidarity,

Alicia Gallo
Vice President, Combined Units
