We are bringing your concerns about the future of horse racing directly to the BC government

December 3, 2025

To: All MoveUP Members at HEI

As you may be aware, on Monday it was reported that the BC government intends to stop providing slot machine revenue to Hastings Racecourse at the end of January 2026.

Sadly, the government did not reach out to us before announcing a significant decision that will have major ramifications on not only the horse racing industry in Vancouver, but on you – our members who have worked so hard and passionately to create a world-class environment for horse racing fans in your community.

We are not taking this issue lightly. We have already contacted the BC government to voice our disappointment at not being consulted and our displeasure over this announcement.

We have asked for an emergency meeting with Nina Krieger, Solicitor General and Minister of Public Safety, so we can discuss how this decision affects our members. You can read a copy of our letter here.

We will have more information for you after we have those meetings.

In solidarity,

Annette Toth, President
Christy Slusarenko, Vice-President, Combined Units
Chris Shier, Union Representative
