VOCU Bargaining Update 12 – 72 Hour Strike Notice Issued
December 1, 2020
To: MoveUP Members at VantageOne Credit Union
After feeling like the message should have been received loud and clear that you’re not willing to accept the employer’s offer, your union reached out and asked that the employer come back to the table with an offer worth considering. Your union provided the employer with a deadline of 4:00pm on November 30 to respond. A few minutes before the deadline, the employer emailed your union and requested that we provide the employer with a counter-offer to their last offer.
Your union’s last offer was put forward to the employer at the table and in mediation, being rejected by them both times. We informed them at the table and during mediation that we were no longer willing to bargain with ourselves by removing more items off of our offer.
We have now issued 72-hour strike notice to the employer. What this means is that 72 hours from the time the Labour Relations Board received the notice, which they confirmed at 9:15am today, we will be in a position to commence legal job action. No job action can commence before 9:16am on Friday, December 4.
Your bargaining committee will be in touch regarding next steps.
As a reminder, please keep information that may be discussed regarding job action confidential.
In solidarity,
Your bargaining committee:
Nadine Burton, Job Steward
Erik G., Executive Councillor
Scott Wilcox, Union Representative
Yudon Garie, Union Representative
