Victoria Shipyards Bargaining and Strike Update
March 31, 2022
To: MoveUP Members at Victoria Shipyards
The Boilermakers 191, on behalf of all unions at Victoria Shipyards, issued 72-hour strike notice on March 29, 2022 at 9:07am. The 72-hour notice period will expire on Friday, April 1, 2022 at 9:07am.
As of this morning, there has yet to be any significant dialogue from the employer, nor has there been any commitment to return to the table.
Considering that we have no clear indication that bargaining will resume, it is likely that we will be requesting that the mediator from the Labour Relations Board (LRB) book-out. As mentioned in our bulletin to you yesterday, we are required to provide 48-hours’ notice before we can officially commence any job action.
What this means is if 48-hours’ notice is given today to the LRB, the earliest we can start job action would be on Saturday.
The unions will be scheduling a meeting for us to discuss next steps and we will communicate those to you.
