Vancouver Shipyards, Security Guards – Issues and Concerns – Follow Up

April 8, 2025

To: All MoveUP members at Vancouver Shipyards (Security Guards)

Further to our bulletin of March 20, 2025, we wanted to provide you with an update.

Your union representative and your job steward, KP, met with your Supervisor – Andrew Schwarz, the Director of Corporate Security – Stan Cratchley, as well as the Manager of Employee Relations – Maryclare Manyuru on April 7 to bring forward the issues that were raised by you.

We shared the concerns in a general manner so that the identity of individual members was not revealed. The employer has committed to act on several of the issues that were raised, for example:

  • Shift scheduling
  • Perception of favouritism
  • Respectful communications
  • Issues when calling in sick
  • Swapping shifts

While we understand that things may never be perfect for everyone, we will be following up with all security guards in the next few months to see if the issues have been addressed and if things are improving for you all.

In the meantime, I encourage you to speak to your job steward or contact me directly at ygarie@moveuptogether.ca if you have any questions.

In solidarity,

KP, Job Steward
Yudon Garie, Union Representative
