Update on removal of mask requirement at ICBC
March 11, 2022
To: All ICBC members at home and work
\Effective today, March 11, the BC Provincial Health Officer has removed the mask requirement for indoor public spaces. While some of us are ready for this change, others may not be prepared and may feel some anxiety. It is important, regardless of your views on mask wearing, to show compassion and understanding as everyone adjusts to this change.
As soon as Dr. Henry made her announcement on Thursday afternoon, our worker representatives on the provincial OH&S committee jumped into action. Working with ICBC, we recommended that masks should remain in place for Driver Examiners and road test examinees. We are pleased to see that this recommendation has been adopted.
ICBC has indicated that they will no longer be providing masks except where they are still required. If you choose to continue to wear a mask and have issues with obtaining one, please speak to your job steward. At MoveUP, we are happy to continue providing our members with our MoveUP-branded three-layer masks (while supplies last).
This morning, ICBC sent out an announcement with more specifics on the changes to their COVID-19 measures. Currently, their mandatory vaccination policy remains in place as they recognize that this virus continues to impact our communities and there are many people who are at higher risk and more susceptible to becoming ill.
If you have any questions on ICBC’s changes to their COVID-19 safety measures, please feel free to contact a member of your worksite OH&S committee, a job steward, or ourselves.
In solidarity,
Annette Toth, Vice-President, ICBC
Trevor Hansen, Acting Senior Union Representative
