Tree Island Steel – Policy Grievance – National Day of Mourning
September 28, 2022
To: MoveUP Members at Tree Island Steel
I write to inform you that a policy grievance has been filed against your employer for their failure to recognize the National Day of Mourning on September 19, 2022 as a holiday. Your collective agreement states under Article 21 “and any other public holiday gazetted, declared or proclaimed by the Federal Government or the Government of the Province of British Columbia, shall be deemed to be a Paid Holiday.” Our interpretation is that September 19th should have been recognized, and thus a policy grievance was filed.
I will keep you up to date on the status of the grievance as it progresses. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me at dstorms@moveuptogether.ca or 604-484-0749.
In solidarity,
Daniel Storms, Union Representative
