Thinking of British Columbians during a state of emergency

December 11, 2025

To: MoveUp Members

As many of you may be aware, late Wednesday afternoon and into the evening several states of emergency were declared, and highways were closed in the Fraser Valley and beyond due to flooding.

At MoveUP, we are thinking of all British Columbians who are being impacted by the latest climate impact and states of emergency. We hope that folks are safe and can find shelter where needed.

This emergency highlights the need for everyone to create a profile ahead of a emergency on the BC government’s Emergency Support Services webpage. This will expedite your ability to access primary services, such things as temporary lodging, flood, and clothing, as well as other specialized services, in the event of an emergency.

You can learn more and pre-register for a profile by clicking here.

If you have been directly affected by the Fraser Valley flooding or any other current states of emergency in the province, please follow the guidance of your local government to ensure your safety.

You can find more information on current emergency alerts at EmergencyInfoBC.

If a state of emergency has affected your ability to work, please contact your employer to let them know your situation. If your employer is unwilling to make accommodations, inform your job steward so they can bring it to our attention.

We want to acknowledge our many members who work at Crown corporations, utilities, in transportation, shipping, roadside assistance, and at many other worksites who are working extra hard to ensure those affected by emergency orders are still getting the services they need.

Your dedication to helping during times like these is appreciated by thousands of people in BC.

In solidarity,

Annette Toth, President
Brenda Chu, Secretary-Treasurer
Dimitri Ossinsky, Vice-President, ICBC
Rysa Kronebusch, Vice-President, Utilities
Christy Slusarenko, Vice-President, Combined Units
