Refreshed Plan for the Annual Job Steward Seminar
July 4, 2019
To: All Job Stewards, Executive Council and Executive Board members
The Education Committee is excited to share with you the plan for the 2020 Job Steward seminar. In an effort to build stronger bonds between stewards and develop their leadership skills we have come up with a refreshed concept for the seminar.
The first change is that the location will be at Harrison Hot Springs. All participants will stay at the resort regardless of where they live. This will end the issue of in-town folks feeling disconnected from the out of town participants by not having to travel each day.
We have secured the resort for March 19-22, 2020 and will limit the participant numbers to 150. The 19th is a Thursday. Each participant will travel to Harrison Hot Springs on the 19th to be there for mid afternoon. The opening plenary will be in the evening of Thursday instead of Friday morning as we have done in the past. On the Friday morning, there will be a break-out session for employer groups or like industries. Then courses will commence in the afternoon of Friday and will run for all day Saturday and the morning of Sunday. Travel home will be in the afternoon of Sunday. For those flying into Vancouver, we will have ground transportation arranged to get participants to and from the airport.
All meals will be provided by the resort. As well, we will have mandatory events each evening intended to build on the leadership training and experience that we will all gain from attending.
But the biggest change is around the new requirement for all participants to have taken Job Steward I and Job Steward II to attend. There will not be any exceptions to this requirement. To ensure everyone has an opportunity to make sure they have met these minimum requirements, we will be offering JSI and JSII as follows:
Job Steward I
September
November
January
Job Steward II
October
December
February
Watch for the registration bulletins that will come out over the next months. If you are uncertain of your educational history, please email education@moveuptogether.ca and we will advise of the list of courses you have taken.
We hope that you are as excited about the coming Job Steward Seminar as we are!
