RE: New Development Survey Tool for Management and People Leaders
November 6, 2020
To: All MoveUP members at BC Hydro
Historically, your union has reviewed and approved any surveys or questionnaires in advance of BC Hydro providing them to MoveUP members. Unfortunately, we had not been made aware of the current survey to be completed by employees that your employer has recently released.
It has been brought to my attention that the employer has introduced a new development survey tool for management and people leaders, which is apparently a piloted endeavor, happening from now until approximately early December. Apparently, this survey is completely voluntary for both people leaders and their direct reports. The questions posed are intended to help people leaders better understand their strengths and development areas as they relate to BC Hydro priorities (Inclusivity & Diversity, and People Leadership).
Our members may be invited by their manager to participate in this “new development survey”. Please be advised that MoveUP is not in support of our members taking part in this survey.
Although the employer assures us that the results of the survey will be shared only with the participating people leader and it is voluntary for people leaders to share their results with their manager and team, we do not support our members rating management or “people leaders”. If you are asked to participate in this survey, please respectfully decline. The only survey we have approved membership to participate in is the BC Hydro All Employee Survey that happens once a year. These ad-hoc surveys that the employer keeps asking membership to participate in could potentially result in a backlash against our members. If you are asked to participate in any survey other than the BC Hydro All Employee Survey, please contact your job steward, union representative or email me directly at rkronebusch@moveuptogether.ca.
Thank you.
Stay safe, healthy, and remember to social distance, wear a mask and please remember the importance of mental health!
