Periods are a fact of life – help us help people live with dignity
March 3, 2020
To All MoveUP members
Menstruation products are a basic necessity. But if you’re living in poverty – or vulnerable in other ways – access to tampons, pads, cups or menstrual underwear, can be challenging.
This year, MoveUP’s Women’s Rights Committee (WRC), and our Human Rights & Multicultural Committee (HRMC), will be joining efforts to help end Period Poverty.
At MoveUP, we acknowledge that menstruation is not just a woman’s issue. It is also an issue for those from the trans and non-binary communities as they also face the hardships of not being able to afford menstruation products or having to deal with related stigmas.
You can be part of the solution…
Beginning today, March 3, until March 31, you can:
- Collect menstruation products like tampons, pads, cups, menstrual underwear, or cash donations in your workplace. Just contact WRC chair and HRMC co-chair Christy Slusarenko to organize your efforts.
- Attend one of the International Women’s Day events MoveUP is hosting on March 7 in Prince George or March 8 in Vancouver.
- Donate cash at MoveUP’s 2020 Job Steward Seminar at Harrison Hot Springs from March 19 to 22.
- Canvass friends and family for donations.
- Stay tuned for additional MoveUP events throughout the month of March!
You can choose any way you like to participate! Just by doing so, you are helping reduce vulnerability and isolation caused by period poverty.
Together, we can help people live with the dignity that we all deserve, creating healthier, more caring and inclusive communities.
This is local love in action.
This is our Period Promise.
