Bargaining
Lu’Ma Native Housing Society – Bargaining Update # 3
October 14, 2025
To: All MoveUP members at LNHS
Your bargaining committee met with your employer on September 22 and October 7 and 8, 2025, to continue collective bargaining. It is important to note that during this round of negotiations, we took on the significant task of a review of the entire Collective Agreement. What that means is we put forward proposals under all main articles, with the goal of ensuring that in this round of bargaining we are applying a strong lens to Supportive Housing to ensure the collective agreement reflects the evolving nature of the work and the inclusion of new classifications within the bargaining unit.
The focus of these recent sessions continued on non-monetary items — articles that do not involve direct financial compensation but are crucial in shaping working conditions, rights, and protections in the workplace. Non-monetary items include provisions such as health and safety language, seniority, the grievance process, definitions, and other areas that bring clarity and consistency to how the collective agreement is applied.
We are pleased to report that discussions on non-monetary items are nearing conclusion, with strong progress and several articles agreed upon. With this work almost complete, the parties hope to move into monetary discussions at upcoming sessions.
Some soft monetary discussions have begun, but we have yet to discuss wages. Monetary items refer to all provisions with a direct financial impact, such as wages, benefits, vacation entitlements, premiums, allowances, and paid leaves. These discussions will focus on ensuring fair and competitive compensation and benefits that recognize the important work done by you, our members, across the sector.
Your bargaining committee and the employer are currently working to secure additional bargaining dates in October to continue negotiations and begin expanded and detailed monetary discussions.
If you have any questions, please see your bargaining committee members Colin Sanderson, Florence Trickett, and Piyush Jain, or contact Georgi Bates, Union Representative, at gbates@moveuptogether.ca or 604-842-4902.
Otherwise, you can expect your next update to come from your bargaining committee following our next set of bargaining dates.
