July 3, 2024

To: MoveUP Members in Victoria

MoveUP is proud to once again take part in the 30th annual Victoria Pride Parade happening this Sunday, July 7 in downtown Victoria.

MoveUP will be joining the Victoria Labour Council at the parade to demonstrate our support and solidarity with the 2SLGTBQIA+ community and our union’s firm belief that everyone has the right to feel safe and loved regardless of their gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation.

If you would like to join us as we march in the parade, please email Shona Dion no later than Thursday, July 4 at shonadion@telus.net with the following information:

  • Your name, workplace and cell number
  • How many people, including yourself, are coming from your workplace. Family members are also welcome to join us in the parade!
  • The t-shirt size of everyone in your group (shirts are available from small to 3XL in both standard cut (commonly referred to as men’s cut by the manufacturer) or curvy cut (commonly referred to as women’s cut by the manufacturer). Please note that children’s sizes are not available.

Parade meet-up information:

  • The Victoria Labour Council, has been assigned spot #99 in Group D.
  • Group D is asked to check in between 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
  • Click HERE for a large version of the parade route map.

Group D will be marshaling (meeting spot) on Chatham St., between Douglas St. and Government St. You can’t miss us! We will have BC Ferries and Marine Workers’ Union ferry float to lead us!

What to expect:

  • Plan for hot weather and sunshine. Pack water and sunscreen! The parade starts at 11 a.m. but we won’t get moving for quite a while. Be prepared to stand and wait in the staging area.
  • Dress up in your Pride colours! Plan for a quick change to your MoveUP T-shirt or just wear what makes you feel good.
  • The parade route is about 2.5 km from Chatham Street to James Bay Community Centre with the Pride Festival at the conclusion of the route! Wear comfortable shoes.
  • This is a loud and exciting event with over 70,000 spectators. It’s a celebration and a political statement, where folks are free to express who they are in a safe and welcoming environment. Allies and members of the 2SLGBTQAI+ communities – we hope to see you on Sunday!

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee access to any motorized forms of transportation during the parade. If you can’t join us to march in the parade, we hope to see you as a spectator as we go by. If you spot us, let us know you’re MoveUP!

In solidarity,

Anderson Charles & Christy Slusarenko
