Empowerment, Advocacy, and Pride: The Inaugural Queer Rights Summit
On behalf of your Human Rights and Multicultural Committee and through your national union COPE/SEPB’s Equity Education and Learning Fund, we are excited to invite our self-identifying Queer Community members to attend this historic first event through Canada Pride 2024!
In a time of rising disinformation and misinformation fueling hate directed toward 2SLGBTQAI+ people, the 2024 Queer Rights Summit will provide a space for activists and leaders to share stories of their work ensuring and defending access to fundamental human rights for themselves and their communities.
When: Thursday, July 31st to Saturday, August 3rd, 2024
Where: Sheridan Vancouver Wall Centre, 1000 Burrard St, Vancouver
This exciting inaugural Summit, part of Canada Pride 2024 in Vancouver, will feature speakers and panelists leading the fight against harmful legislation targeting trans folks, confronting online hate and misinformation, and developing new strategies for delivering gender-affirming care, plus other key conversations relevant right now.
Confirmed panel topics include:
- Disinformation, Misinformation, and the Rise of Hate
- The Battle for Queer Rights in the Courtroom
- Trans Youth and the Folx Who Love Them: Perspectives Amidst Rising Hate
- Beyond DE&I: Safe and Inclusive Workplaces in a Polarized World
- Countering Misinformation Around SOGI-Inclusive Education
- Addressing Rising Hate in the International Context – hosted by Dignity Network Canada
Attendance at this event is by invitation-only through Vancouver Pride. MoveUP will reserve spaces for up to five members. The selection of the five members will be based on completed RSVPs, selected and pending review of the required information that will need to be submitted to the Vancouver Pride Society. The organizers may require clarification of answers; if needed, we will contact you at the email you provide. Reservations not accepted by Vancouver Pride will be refunded to MoveUP.

The Queer Rights Summit is a new keystone event within the Vancouver Pride Season, held on the stolen, occupied, traditional, and ancestral territory of the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples.
