ICBC – Health & Safety Grievance for Auto Claims Specialists
March 5, 2025
To: All MoveUP Members in the Auto Claims Specialist I, II, III, and IV Position
Your union has recently filed a group grievance related to the Health and Safety for our members in the four affected job titles noted above.
We have heard from members at every level of the new Auto Claims Specialist positions and the general consensus is that this change impacts everyone. The expectations put on all of you has created a series of health concerns that the employer failed to consider before implementation of this new model. For those of you in these roles, the additional duties, lack of training, and insurmountable workloads has created a health and safety issue, resulting in your union filing this grievance under article 22 of the collective agreement. Brian Martens, one of your ICBC Executive Board members, will be the job steward assigned to this grievance and working alongside Yudon Garie, Union Representative.
We will be reaching out to you in the coming weeks to ask for your feedback on the impacts that this new model has had on you. Some members have already reached out to their job steward, executive councillor, or executive board members to share their experience and for that, we thank you. We are hoping to enlighten and educate the employer by sharing your experiences with them. As a resolve to this grievance, we have asked them to take the necessary steps to ensure that your workplace is a healthy and safe one and that could include appropriate training and support, an adjustment period, education, a workload review, and even a possible salary review.
We understand that the introduction of this new claims model is a stressful time for a lot of our members. We ask everyone to be patient and supportive with one another while we proceed through the grievance process.
In solidarity,
Brian Martens, Executive Board Member
Yudon Garie, Union Representative
