ICBC Auto Claims Model Launch – Focal Points and Survey Update– Union Response Update #4

April 8, 2025

To: ICBC Auto Claims Specialist I, II, III and IV Positions

Thank you to all our members who have taken the time to respond to our survey’s regarding the Auto Claims Model, both the general one and as well as the Psychological Health Survey.  We have been working on sorting the data we have received, as well as reviewing the countless emails received and preparing to share it with ICBC.

A direct dialogue with ICBC executives is next

Our next step is to meet with ICBC executives and to have a comprehensive and tangible discussions about all the concerns, feedback, and ideas raised. We have been coordinating with ICBC to set up a meeting where the conversation is direct between us, as your focal points who do the work every day, and the executives who implemented and are overseeing the Auto Claims Model. We look forward to these discussions and sharing the outcomes with you.

Your feedback is vital—Keep sharing

Moving forward we ask all feedback to be sent to acmfeedback@moveuptogether.ca and one of our eight focal point job stewards will get back to you depending on the nature of your inquiry or comments.

We want to continue hearing from you as things develop. No concern is too minor and your feedback to us will be kept confidential. Any documentation that can be provided is useful for us.

Update on Workload Complaint and Job Profile Reviews

We also continue with our Workload Complaint launched under LOU 18 (pp. 171-173) of our collective agreement to address the concerns of Claims Adjusters and Commercial Claims Adjusters prior to, and after, the launch of the Auto Claims Model. The grievance for the Workload Complaint has been advanced to the Labour Board and mediation will be occurring on April 23rd. We also are in the process of reviewing each job profile directly impacted by the launch of the Auto Claims Model.

Grievance on Psychological Health Impacts

With all the efforts we are making, we understand that the difficulties you have faced over the last few months are not easily reversed. We deeply thank Executive Board Member Brian Martens and Union Representative Yudon Garie for their work on a grievance regarding the psycho-social impacts of the Auto Claims Model and its implementation.

This grievance will allow us to hold the employer to task regarding any harm done to our members from a mental and physical health perspective.

We will keep pushing every day to ensure ICBC hears your concerns, feedback and ideas. Every inch forward is a testament to the resiliency of our membership during the hardest of times.

We again thank our hardworking and dedicated Focal Point Stewards:

Mental Health Resources Available to You

  • Sun Life Mental Health Benefits – MoveUP members have $2,500 per year for clinical counselors, psychologists, psychotherapists, and social workers.
  • Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) – Free and confidential support is available at 1-866-395-9191.

We strongly encourage members to take advantage of these resources. We know the deep stress members are feeling and mental health resources are by no means a solution to the root issue; however, learning coping mechanisms, having a third-party to vent to and getting an outside perspective can be extremely valuable in the work we do.

In solidarity,

Dimitri Ossinsky – Vice-President, ICBC
Trevor Hansen – Senior Union Representative
