Hertz Vancouver – Additional Update on Policy Grievance-Pension Contributions
To: All MoveUP Members at Hertz Vancouver
As noted in our May 15, 2025, memorandum, the union had concerns about not being consulted or involved about the letters to members or the hard deadline of May 16, 2025.
After raising the union’s concerns with the employer, we have agreement that you, as members, will have to Friday, May 23, 2025, to decide whether you wish to participate.
If you have already responded to the employer and you confirmed will be participating, the deduction payments will made over 13 pay periods.
If you have not responded to the employer but you intend to do so, the deduction payments will be made over 12 pay periods.
This means the payments will be slightly higher since the total amount owed will be over 12 pay periods and not over 13 pay periods.
For members on vacation, sick leave, extended sick leave (i.e., short-term or long-term disability) or on other leaves of absence, the union has requested that these members be given additional consideration because they may not be aware of the recent developments.
Most of these members have already been contacted last week.
The employer has agreed to identify this small group of members/employees and to work with the union to support them. The union will be provided a list of these members.
In summary, the union’s advice to you is as follows:
- Hertz will put in their employer share that they should have for 2023 and 2024 if members contribute their share as well.
- There is no requirement for employees to contribute unless they want to do so.
- Employees can choose to make contributions either as a one-time payment or via payroll deduction, which will be over 12 pay periods.
- The union advises that members do payroll deduction because it is the easiest to do financially.
- If you can contribute, the union strongly urges you to consider doing so, and to let the employer know as soon as you can because the employer is matching your contribution with the final deadline being Friday, May 26, 2025.
As previously mentioned, the pension contributions will be based on the total amount you earn, as was done prior to the filing of the grievance.
