Hertz – Layoff Update – April 9, 2020
April 9, 2020
To: All MoveUP members at Hertz
As the employer proceeds with layoffs, MoveUP is working to ensure that your interests are represented and the employer meets its obligations.
Your Union met with the employer last Thursday to address some outstanding issues related to the layoff process. Extensive discussions were related to rates of pay during the layoff notice period and the precise date of the layoff notice. Your Union focused on ensuring that MoveUP members receive what we are entitled to.
Members have concerns about the cost of maintaining the benefits. Your Union has asked the employer for more detailed information. We will forward that information to our members once we receive it.
Records of Employment (ROE’s) will indicate the reason for layoff as code (A) shortage of work. The Employment Insurance website specifically asks employers to use code (A) if the layoff is related to COVID-19 and that should provide for faster processing.
As members work through the layoff notice period, keep in mind that the layoff notices may be rescinded at any time. We are all hoping for business to pick up as soon as possible and this could possibly mean that those with longer notice periods may be recalled before the notice ends.
If you have questions about applying for Employment Insurance please refer to MoveUP bulletin #4. The bulletins are also available on the MoveUP website.
