Do you Know About BC211?
October 31, 2019
To: All MoveUP members
This is the time of year where campaign fund raising for societies and charitable organizations is in full swing. Here at MoveUP our employees are actively raising money for the annual United Way campaign. We would like to take this opportunity to raise awareness of BC211, a resource that the United Way helps fund.
BC211 began in 1953 under the name Community Information Service. They began offering specialized help lines in the late 1980’s starting with the Victim’s Information Line and the Alcohol and Drug TRYLine. Over the next 20 years they continued to grow. They added the Problem Gambling Help Line, Youth Against Violence Line and Shelter and Street Help Line to the services they offer. On April 10, 2010, the 211 British Columbia Services Society, operating under the name BC211, was officially launched. In 2017, with help and funding from the United Way Lower Mainland, BC211 expanded its online services province-wide, including a new website.
BC211 can help you find the assistance that you or someone you may know needs. BC211 can help connect you to a wide variety of resources such as agencies that help with addiction, abuse, counselling, financial and employment assistance, housing, language classes, Legal assistance and so much more! Just dial 211 or e-mail help@bc211.ca
As we enter this season we witness many struggling with depression and the holidays. Social isolation is the biggest predictor of depression during the holidays. Some people who are usually content may experience loneliness and a lack of fulfillment. If you are approached by a member who is seeking help, please let them know about 211. All they have to do is call or e-mail help@bc211.ca and 211 will help connect them to the appropriate resources.
Thank you,
