David Suzuki Foundation Collective Bargaining Update

May 29, 2025

To: Members at David Suzuki Foundation

Your union received a response from the employer on May 19, 2025. The employer is insistent on pursuing the administrative implications of negotiation process. In the interest of clarity and to reiterate our previous positions, we must stress that, given that the union members work across multiple provinces, the bargaining process should be coordinated across all jurisdictions at a common “national” table.  The Union remains committed to negotiating a fair collective agreement in good faith. Therefore, it is imperative that a collective voice is sustained across all regions in support of the needs of all of the membership.
The employer insists on only opening the bargaining process in B.C. and then negotiating on a province-by-province basis. The Union feels strongly that this is an unfair process and believes the employer is forgetting their own duties under the jurisdictions’ provincial legislations. The Employer cannot lawfully stall or fragment the process favouring one region over the other. To split the bargaining process is to place one group of membership at a disadvantage over others.
You all joined the Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union to have a collective voice. We want you to know that we will continue standing strong as we fight for a fair agreement for each of you regardless of where you do your work. We will keep you updated. Thank you for your continued support and solidarity.
In solidarity,
Anny Chen
Union Representative
