Coming tomorrow! MoveUP jackets for our members at YVR car rentals!

May 15, 2025

To: All MoveUP members at Hertz and Enterprise at YVR

We are very excited to let you know that we will be distributing MoveUP branded outdoor jackets, designed to keep you healthy and safe in all weather conditions, to our members who work at the Hertz and Enterprise at YVR.

Vice-President Christy Slusarenko will be at the QTA from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, May 16) to distribute the jackets on a first-come, first-served basis. All members who would like a jacket will be provided with one.

If you are unavailable to drop by during this time, please contact your executive board member Gurdinder Dhandwal at ghandwal@moveuptogether.ca or let your job steward know so we can make sure we get one for you. Please make sure to let us know your size as well.

Ensuring our members working at car rentals have appropriate outdoor clothing has been a long-term goal for us, and this was made possible thanks to the continued feedback you brought forward to us.

Earlier this year, during a visit to the QTA with our President Annette Toth and VP Christy Slusarenko, our Hertz members brought forward an ongoing issue that their employer was not providing adequate winter and rain attire for our members working outdoor.

We know that our former union representative had multiple conversations about this issue with the employer in the past and they still declined to provide warm, water-resistant jackets for our members despite Article 29.03(a) of your collective agreement indicating they had a responsibility to do so.

29.03 Safety Equipment, Appliances and Clothing

(a) The Employer shall supply, at no cost to the employees, such equipment, appliances and/or clothing as deemed necessary and reasonable to ensure the occupational health and safety of employees. Such items provided by the Employer shall remain the property of the Employer and shall be returned to the Employer on termination of employment.

We will continue to push to ensure your respective employers live up to their obligations under your collective agreements. However, we decided in the meantime that enough was enough and that you could not wait any longer to get what you are entitled to, and so our union took matters into our own hands.

We hope you will wear your new MoveUP branded jackets proudly and look forward to seeing you tomorrow at the QTA.

In solidarity,

Christy Slusarenko
Vice-President, Combined Units
