Canadian Freightways – Common Employer Application
October 14, 2020
To: All MoveUP Members at Canadian Freightways
We write to let you know that we have received a decision from the Canadian Industrial Relations Board regarding MoveUP’s Common Employer application. The board has ordered that a Representative vote take place to determine the applications outcome. This means a vote will be taking place that includes all the workers across the country at TST-CF Express to be able to join The Union under your existing collective agreement.
This is a great first step in creating a more stable and secure worksite with the provisions of the collective agreement for all TST-CF Express workers across the organization. Should the vote be successful in favor of joining MoveUP, all the workers would be joined under one collective agreement and be union members. It would give the bargaining committee a better position to negotiate for all workers rather than representing just shy of half the company. The employer has stated that moving positions of work from union locations to non-union locations is something they are willing to do in the future. A successful application would make sure MoveUP can better handle and negotiate those moves for our members and create better job security for everyone.
This is an incredible, one-time opportunity to build solidarity and strength at your workplace moving forward, and the best next steps are to make sure everyone supports this vote and knows what a complete unionized worksite would mean for you. We ask that our members take every opportunity outside of working hours to have discussions on the benefits of the collective agreement with non-union workers. The MoveUP staff contact information can be shared with all workers and can be contacted at join@moveuptogether.ca or by telephone at (604) 299-0378 for more information.
The voting dates have not yet been scheduled but could be as early as early as next week. To go further into detail about the voting process and ways we can work together to make sure we have a successful vote, we would like to schedule a town hall meeting for Monday October 19th, 2020 at 6:00 PM Pacific Time. We look forward to discussing this opportunity as well as answer any questions on the matter.
Thank You
In Solidarity,Mike Novak, Union Representative
