BCGEU – Retroactive Pay and Unit Meeting Update
November 16, 2022
To: All MoveUP members at BCGEU
We met with your Employer at the Labour-Management and Workload Committee meetings last week and wish to provide the following update.
As most of you are aware, in the last round of bargaining we were able to achieve a wage increase for April 1, 2022 that reads as such; “1.5% or a “me too” to the Public Service agreement, whichever is greater.” Now that this agreement has been ratified, we can see that it’s first year increase was .25 cents and then a 3.24% increase on top of that. Currently your Employer is calculating what this will look like and will keep us updated on their progress, as your Employer is aiming to have the retroactivity calculated and paid out by the end of December of this year.
Also, as we are less than 6 months out from bargaining with your Employer once again, we will need to start discussing the construct of our bargaining committee as well as calling for an Expression of Interest for those interested in participating. We will be discussing bargaining this Thursday, November 17, 2022 in our Job Stewards meeting but would also like to hold a unit meeting with our members in the near future. Myself, and the Vice President of Combined Units, Christy Slusarenko, are hoping to meet with you at the end of one of your Conference days next month, likely on Tuesday, December 6, 2022. We are hoping to be in Richmond at the hotel where you are meeting with your Employer from when your meetings end around 5 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. Your Employer is currently attempting to help make this happen and as soon as we have confirmation of this, we will let you all know.
I look forward to meeting a lot of you in person next month.
In Solidarity,
Phillip Bargen
Union Representative
