BCGEU – Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee

To: All MoveUP members at BCGEU
The Union is seeking nominations for members to join the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee (JHSC). As per Article 22.2 in the collective agreement the committee shall consist of an equal number of worker representatives (including the Union members) and BCGEU representatives.
The JHSC Committee will meet monthly. It is important to acknowledge attendance is expected unless unforeseen circumstances or vacation. A record of the meeting and the matter discussed must be maintained and a copy sent to the Union.
Occupational Health and Safety Regulation
The Occupational Health and Safety Regulation (OHSR) contains legal requirements that must be met by all workplaces under the jurisdiction of the WCB. Worker representatives & Employer representatives are on equal playing fields and cooperate to ensure the Health and Safety of workers.
The purpose of the OHSR is to promote occupational health and safety and to protect workers and other persons present at workplaces from work-related risks to their health, safety, and well-being. This includes both physical and psychological concerns.
Every employee has the right to:
- Know the hazards in the workplace
- Participate in Health & Safety matters
- Refuse unsafe work
- Not face discriminatory actions for raising Health & Safety Matters
